EEEK! A MOUSE!
Rodents can be very destructive. Their constant gnawing damages wiring and woodwork. Their foraging activity and prolific defecating spoil food. They are also often associated with numerous parasites and diseases.
The first step to controlling a rodent problem is to keep them out of the house! Pick up a number two pencil. Look at the end. A mouse only needs a hole the width of a pencil to get into your home. You need to find all those openings and make permanent repairs with rodent-proof materials. Make sure all the doors and windows fit tightly. Check the weather stripping. Check everywhere a pipe or cable goes through a wall. Check the foundation for cracks and worn masonry. Mow the lawn and trim tree shrubbery off the ground and away from the house. Once mice are no longer getting in, a variety of baits and traps can be used to remove any that are already inside.
